Diametral Pitch (DP) Rack & Pinion Interchanges

Some companies in the U.S. use diametral pitch (or DP) rack & pinions on small, light machines.  These rack & pinions are typically lower quality and inexpensive, but work sufficiently and provide reasonable accuracy.

However, companies eventually outgrow the capabilities of these low quality rack & pinions, especially when they want to achieve better accuracy, smoothness and higher linear speeds.
