The following tables gives the torque ratings (in lb.ft.) for various racks using a hardened & ground pinion. Selection should be based on peak acceleration/deceleration force. Service factors need to be applied to these ratings to adjust for duty cycle and lubrication; for more information on selection, please follow this link.
